As a mum and leader in the District I understand that sometimes uniform and basic equipment for scouting can be difficult to get hold of and expensive, especially if your child grows out of their uniform while still in the same section. Also I have a cupboard full of uniform which my children don’t need any more but is still in good condition. With this in mind I have decided to try running a second hand uniform shop for the benefit of all in the East Grinstead Distict.
Therefore a trial second hand uniform shop will be available to all parents and members of scouts in East Grinstead from January 2010. This will operate 7.00-8.00pm from the upstairs back room of the 1st East Grinstead Scout hall on a Monday during term time. Stock initially will include beaver and cub jumpers, scout, explorers and leader shirts, scout trousers and waterproofs and hiking boots.
In order to obtain stock I am asking all members and parents to hunt out unwanted uniforms either grown out of or no longer needed because you have moved sections. These can be donated entirely to the scouts (profits going to fund equipment to rent out to members or for the use of all in the district) or can be sold on a 50/50 basis with you taking half the sale price.
All uniform in good condition, clean and with badges removed will be accepted along with waterproofs and hiking boots.
This is a new venture in the district, the success of which will depend on donations and demand.
