1st East Grinstead Scouts Summer Camp 09
By nickhills On Thursday, August 27th, 2009Both Scout Troops form the !st East Grinstead Group shared a great camp at Cricket Camp, a District Run site near Southampton.
Leaders and 20 scouts had a great time. Activities included dingy sailing, a day trip to Portsmouth docks, High ropes course, crabbing, scouting crafts and badge work.
A highlight of the camp for many was the opportunity to sail a 75ft tail ship in the Solent. With all scouts asleep on the way home a great time was had by all.

We’re all going on a summer holiday…
By nickhills On Monday, August 10th, 2009If only someone has told the weather it was summer….
Wales carries a reputation for being ever so slightly damp, but this didn’t bother the 15 explorers from Griffyn who spent their summer camp at Dolygear Scout campsite near Brecon.
Activities such as Windsurfing, Sailing, Hiking, Abseiling and swimming were on the entertainment menu for the week, as well as an activity that the explorers had not in the past had an opportunity to experience.
Gorge Scrambling
Think of an extreme swimming pool, complete with waterfalls, cascades, jumps, and tunnels, and then imagine your outside, in real fast flowing streams, and you’re close to understanding what it’s about.
Under the careful supervision of instructors from Dolygear Activity Centre, the explorers were seen leaping into pools, climbing through tunnels, traversing waterfalls, and tumbling down the water courses, it is no surprise that this was regarded as the best activity of the week, and will be remembered by all for many years to come.
