New District Commissioner Announced

8 June 2016

The East Grinstead District Scout Council is very pleased to announce that Mel Fletcher has been appointed as our new DC with immediate effect.

Please pass this news on to your sections and colleagues within the District. An full county wide announcement is expected on the 9th June.

A few words from Mel:

My time in scouting started as a Cub in a group that I remember well. The 5th Petts Wood in the district of Greater London South East (I don’t think the Group I went to had Beavers at the time) !

That seems a long time ago ! As I now take on the role of DC for East Grinstead, it is my wish and intention to make sure that the young people get the scouting experience that gives them the skills and memories for Life in the same way as I have been privileged enough to experience.

The journey from Cub Scout to DC was via all sections and I still remember some of the great experiences that I had in The Venture Scout section – including one of the best camps ever at Great Towers Camp site in the Lake District.

Shortly after arriving in East Grinstead some 18 years ago, I was roped back into Scouting leadership and during my time in the District I have run both Cub Packs and Scout Troops in the district. Recent years have involved delivering Kayaking in the district.

As I step up to take on the role of DC, first off I offer an open door to all – I may not know the immediate answer to the questions that you have, but I will listen and help to guide and resolve issues as we all work to deliver stronger scouting in the district.

I would like to thank Chris for the work he has done as DC and intend to build on the work that he and others have done over the last year.

I look forward to seeing you around the district and will Do my best to serve my time to make the scouting as rewarding as possible for all during my time as DC.

Yours In Scouting

Mel Fletcher
